Visiting a farm can have a life-long, transformative impact, not only on a child’s relationship with nature, but in relation to future food choices as they become better able to understand the connections between farming, climate, nature and health.
As a The Sustainable Food Trust Beacon Farm, we are delivering curriculum linked, outdoor learning experiences in partnership with and The Harmony Project. These visits are designed to enhance children's curriculum learning outdoors while exploring topics like where our food comes from, healthy eating, and in particular nature-friendly farming.
We can support a wide range of science topics such as habitat vs micro-habitat and plant and animal life cycles, as well a geography topics like seasonal change and map work. Farm visits are a unique way to bring lessons to life, promote sustainability awareness and create unforgettable outdoor learning experiences for your students.
We are hoping in the future, to work together with these amazing charities to develop a bespoke curriculum-linked programme that develops the theme of healthy soil, healthy food and healthy people, to include healthy clothes, with the aim to connect primary school pupils to the work we do at Great Cotmarsh Farm around regenerative fashion and textiles.
What schools need to know:
-
The visits are free, and we’ll share risk assessments to save you time.
-
Curriculum-aligned discussions and topics - ideal for science, geography, DT and PSHE learning, thanks to our partnership with The Harmony Project and Sustainable Food Trust charities, who have provided us with engaging curriculum-linked resources, including booklets that the children can take home with them.
-
Customisable: Let us know what your children are focusing on in class and we can apply it to our farm setting.
-
Transport: We have a local business that has offered to provide free transport to local primary schools
Please get in touch to discuss how we can arrange a visit.
